2048 Quick Reference: Controls, Strategy & Ranks

  • Arrow keys or WASD to swipe tiles. When two tiles of the same value collide, they merge into one and you earn points equal to the new tile's value.
  • Keep your highest tile anchored in a corner and build descending values along the edges - this is the foundation of every high-score strategy.
  • Your score compounds exponentially: every merge past 2048 is worth more than all previous merges combined. Never stop at the 2048 tile.
  • Your rank is your total trophy count across 10 categories, running through 13 military tiers from Private (0) to General (1,200). Trophies only ever go up, so a bad game can never cost you a rank.
