Equipment & Cosmetics

Equipment is the cosmetic layer of 2048.now - Three slots (board skin, tile style, avatar frame) across four rarities, unlocked with coins or crafted with gems. None of it affects competitive results. For the full item catalogue with every price and craft recipe, see the 2048 Equipment Guide.

1 What is the equipment system in 2048.now?

Equipment is a cosmetic personalisation system with three slots: Board Skin (the game board theme), Tile Style (the look of the numbered tiles), and Avatar Frame (a decorative frame around your profile picture on leaderboards). All items are purely visual - Equipment has zero effect on tile values, score calculation, undo availability, or any ranked metric.

2 What are the four rarity tiers?

Rarities in order from lowest to highest:

  • Common - Entry-level designs, 0–200 coins
  • Rare - Distinctive designs like Neon and Crystal, 500–750 coins
  • Epic - Premium designs like Gold and Fire, 1,200–2,000 coins
  • Legendary - Diamond and Cosmic items at the top of the catalogue, 2,500–8,000 coins or crafted with rare gems

Higher rarities are more elaborate visually and add more equipment score - Never mechanically superior.

3 How do I get equipment?

Two ways:

  • Buy with coins - Every item has a fixed coin price. Coins are earned through ranked games, daily quests, and login streaks - They cannot be bought with real money.
  • Craft with gems - Most items have a craft recipe: specific gems (which drop randomly during ranked games) plus a reduced coin fee. Crafting is usually the cheaper route.

The Classic board skin and Classic Tiles are free defaults on every account. Full prices and recipes are in the Equipment Guide.

4 Can equipment affect my game score or rank?

No - Equipment is 100% cosmetic. No item modifies score multipliers, undo counts, spawn rates, or any competitive metric. The only progression effect is indirect: each unlock adds equipment score (+10 Common, +50 Rare, +200 Epic, +1,000 Legendary), which feeds the Equipment trophy category and your overall rank.

5 Can I trade equipment with other players?

Equipment items themselves are account-bound and cannot be transferred. What you can trade is the crafting material: the Marketplace lets any player list gems for coins or buy gems from others, so every craftable item is indirectly reachable through trade. Details in Can you trade equipment?

6 Is there a dark mode for 2048.now?

Yes - 2048.now has a full dark theme for the entire interface, and the Midnight board skin (200 coins, Common) gives the game board itself a deep dark look with glowing tiles. Board skins and tile styles are designed to display well in both light and dark themes. See the dark mode FAQ.
