Think of equipment as the way you make a 2048 game board your own. A board skin repaints the playing field behind the tiles — from the clean default look to neon grids, deep-space backdrops, and seasonal themes. A tile style changes how the numbered squares are drawn, swapping the familiar warm palette for glassy, metallic, gemstone, or glowing finishes that stay perfectly readable as values climb past 2048. An avatar frame wraps a decorative border around your profile picture, so the cosmetics you collect show up next to your name on the leaderboard and in multiplayer.
Every item is earned through play, never locked behind real money. Coins from ranked games, daily quests, and login streaks buy items outright, while gems that drop during ranked matches let you craft pieces for less. Rarity runs Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary — higher tiers are more elaborate and add more equipment score toward your rank, but they are purely visual. Build a collection at your own pace; consistent daily play is enough to unlock most of the catalogue over time.

What is the equipment system in 2048.now?
Equipment is a cosmetic personalisation system with three slots: Board Skin (the game board theme), Tile Style (the look of the numbered tiles), and Avatar Frame (a decorative frame around your profile picture on leaderboards). All items are purely visual — equipment has zero effect on tile values, score calculation, undo availability, or any ranked metric.

How do the three equipment slots work together?
You equip exactly one item per slot, and the three combine into a single look: the board skin repaints the playing field, the tile style redraws the numbered squares on top of it, and the avatar frame wraps your profile picture wherever your name appears — leaderboards, live games and multiplayer.
Swapping between items you already own is free and instant, so there is no reason to hoard them, and unequipping a slot simply returns it to the default. Ownership is permanent: once an item is bought or crafted it stays on your account whether or not it is currently equipped.

How do I get equipment?

Can equipment affect my game score or rank?
No — equipment is 100% cosmetic. No item modifies score multipliers, undo counts, spawn rates, or any competitive metric. The only progression effect is indirect: each unlock adds equipment score (+10 Common, +50 Rare, +200 Epic, +1,000 Legendary), which feeds the Equipment trophy category and your overall rank.

Is it cheaper to buy equipment with coins or craft it with gems?
Crafting is almost always cheaper in coins, because a recipe swaps most of the price for gems you have already collected. The Neon board skin costs 750 coins outright but crafts for 3 Garnet, 2 Topaz and 200 coins; the Gold board skin is 2,000 coins outright or 3 Ruby, 2 Amethyst and 500 coins; Rounded Tiles are 150 coins or 2 Garnet and 80 coins.
Buying is the better option when you are gem-poor and coin-rich, or when you want an item immediately rather than waiting for the right gems to drop.

Where do coins and gems for cosmetics come from?
Coins are the broad currency: every completed ranked game pays some, and daily quests, login streaks and rank promotions pay more. Gems are the narrower one, dropping during ranked play and arriving through quest and event rewards, and they are what crafting recipes consume. Neither can be bought with real money.
If you are short of a specific gem, the Marketplace lets you buy it from another player for coins, which is the only route by which cosmetics move between accounts at all.

How many equipment items are there in total?
The catalogue holds fourteen items across the three slots: six board skins, five tile styles and three avatar frames. Two of them — the Classic board skin and Classic Tiles — are unlocked by default on every account, so twelve are earnable.
Each slot spans the full rarity range, which means you can build a complete Legendary set without touching the Shop, or mix rarities freely across slots.

Can I trade equipment with other players?
