2048 Strategy Basics

A few proven habits separate players who stall at 512 from players who reach 2048 and beyond:

• Anchor your biggest tile in a corner. Pick one corner and keep your highest tile parked there for the entire game. The corner strategy is the foundation every other technique builds on.
• Keep your rows ordered. Arrange each row so values always increase toward your anchor corner. These monotonic rows merge cleanly instead of leaving small tiles stranded between big ones.
• Build a snake. Chain descending values back and forth across the board so one merge cascades into the next. The snake pattern turns a winning position into a runaway score.
• Don't chase random merges. Reacting to whatever tile just spawned scrambles your structure. Plan two or three moves ahead and avoid pressing your worst direction.

Choose Your 2048 Mode

Every mode on 2048.now uses the same merge rules — what changes is the board and the competition:

• Classic 4×4 — the original puzzle. Fast, tense, and the grid every world record is set on.
• 2048 5×5 — more space and longer games, with 4096 and 8192 within realistic reach.
• 2048 6×6 — the expert marathon board for huge tiles and record scores.
• Desafio Diário — one shared puzzle per day, one attempt, and a global leaderboard to climb.
• Multijogador — race a live opponent on identical boards to see who merges faster.
• Arena — tournament-style runs where consistent play earns trophies and seasonal rewards.

Whichever you pick, every finished game earns XP and counts toward your rank.

2048 was created by Gabriele Cirulli, a 19-year-old Italian developer who built the game over a single weekend and released it for free in March 2014.
