Is 2048 the Same as Sudoku?

No - 2048 and Sudoku are completely different games. The only thing they share is that both involve numbers.

2048

  • Grid: 4×4 (or larger variants)
  • Mechanic: Slide all tiles in one direction each turn; matching tiles merge and double their value
  • New tiles: A new tile (2 or 4) appears each move
  • Goal: Reach the 2048 tile - Or go as high as possible
  • Type: Dynamic, real-time puzzle with increasing board state

Sudoku

  • Grid: 9×9
  • Mechanic: Fill empty cells with digits 1–9 so that each row, column, and 3×3 box contains each digit exactly once
  • New tiles: None - The puzzle starts partially filled and does not change
  • Goal: Complete the static puzzle without any repeated numbers
  • Type: Logic deduction puzzle - One correct solution

Why people confuse them

Both games use a grid of numbers and are popular as browser or mobile puzzle games. However, the gameplay, strategy, and win conditions are entirely different. 2048 is about dynamic merging and board management; Sudoku is about constraint-satisfaction logic.
